City of Dahlonega Municipal Elections Overview – 2025
The City of Dahlonega is governed by the Mayor and six (6) Council Members, who are not geographically designated as districts traditionally are; therefore, each Dahlonega City Council Member represents the City at large. Elected officials serve for a term of four (4) years, and until their respective successors have been elected and qualified.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify as a candidate for Mayor or City Council in Dahlonega, you must:
- Have lived in the City of Dahlonega for at least 12 months immediately prior to the election
- Continue to reside within the City during your period of service
- Be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of the City of Dahlonega
- Meet the qualification standards required for members of the Georgia House of Representatives as are now or may in the future be prescribed in the Georgia Constitution
Qualifying for the 2025 Election
- Dates: Tuesday, August 19, 2025 through Thursday, August 21, 2025
- Times: 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily
- Location: Gary McCullough Council Chambers, Dahlonega City Hall (465 Riley Road)
Qualifying Fees(three percent (3%) of the previous years’ annual gross salary for the Council Post and Office of the Mayor)
- Mayor: $270.00
- Council Post: $144.00
Requirements for Qualification
Candidates must submit the following during the Qualifying Period:
- Notice of Candidacy and Affidavit Form
- Payment of Qualifying Fee (cash, credit card, or check payable to “The City of Dahlonega”)
- Confirmation of Name on Ballot, City Website, and Official Documents Form
- Provide proof of valid photo identification
