Tree Committee
The City of Dahlonega’s tree canopy is one of our greatest assets. The preservation of trees, maintenance of existing trees, and installation of new trees in our community will ensure a beautiful canopy which can be enjoyed now and by future generations.
The City of Dahlonega has maintained its designation as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation since 2001. This award honors the commitment to community forestry and is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA.
In recognition of the importance of the tree canopy not only to the environment but to the local tourism industry, the Dahlonega City Council established a Tree Committee in 2001, to help advise staff and the council on tree-related matters. This committee is composed of citizens of both the city and the county who volunteer their time and talents to the enhancement and preservation of Dahlonega’s tree canopy.

The tree committee is charged by the council with making recommendations regarding planting, maintenance, and protection of tress on public property; or when requested may be called upon to review and make recommendations upon any special matter or question coming within the scope of its works as governed by the Mayor and Council. The city’s engineer serves as the staff liaison between the committee, manager, and council. The Tree Committee meets as needed.
