BOIL WATER ADVISORY
BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING
Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice. (Per GA EPD) It is safe to bathe with just be careful not to swallow the water while bathing or showering. Use caution when bathing babies and young children. Consider giving them a sponge bath to reduce the chance of them swallowing water. (Per CDC)
What Happened?
At about 5:00 am on December 6, 2024, a water main break on Happy Hollow Road caused a loss in pressure to the water system. This map shows the impacted area.
When water mains lose pressure, there is an increased chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter your water.
Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. But these symptoms are not just caused by microbes in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you should seek medical advice.
What is being done?
Bacterial testing is ongoing in accordance with Georgia EPD Standards. City employees are repairing the problem and are taking water samples to the lab to be tested.
We should have the results back from the lab in 24 – 36 hours. If you have not heard anything from us in 36 hours, please feel free to contact City Hall @ 706-864-6133.
It is likely that you will need to boil water for the next five (5) days until we get water sample results from the lab. You can check the City Website, www.dahlonega.gov, or our Dahlonega City Hall Facebook page to confirm when this advisory is lifted.
