City Manager

The City Council appoints a City Manager on the basis of his or her executive and administrative qualifications who supervises and coordinates all departments of the city and implements the policy decisions of the City Council in all departments. Leadership is provided by planning, facilitating and supervising the programs and services of the city. Responsibilities also include making recommendations to the City Council related to the affairs of the city, preparing reports to the City Council in respect to the operations of city departments or programs, ensuring that all laws, provisions of the City Charter are faithfully executed.

Downtown Development Authority & Main Street Program

The purpose of the Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Program is to stimulate and sustain economic development in Downtown Dahlonega by encouraging cooperation and building leadership; by advancing a positive image of downtown and promoting it as an exciting place to live, shop, and invest; by sustaining and improving the appearance of downtown; and by strengthening and expanding the economic base of downtown. Downtown Dahlonega will retain its role as the heart of the region and the center for community and economic development. It will have an inviting appearance, highlighted by historic architecture. It will enhance the civic, cultural, and economic vitality of the entire community.

Community Development

The Planning and Zoning Administrator is responsible for the administration of Community Development which includes plan review for subdivision, multi-family and commercial development, zoning administration, land use regulations, plat approval, building permits, sign permits, business license initial approval, and the administration of annexations, variances and appeals. City staff includes a Code Enforcement Officer who enforces city ordinances and regulations which include building inspections and soil erosion regulations.

Public Works

The Public Works Department maintains all the roads and streets within the City of Dahlonega. This department's other responsibilities include maintaining all city buildings, parks, and cemeteries.

Water Department

The City’s Water Treatment Facility provides safe, quality drinking water to the residents of Dahlonega and has received numerous awards for outstanding operations in the state of Georgia. Our source of water is derived from the Yahoola Creek Reservoir, a 140-acre lake completed in 2003 through a joint venture with Lumpkin County. The water is treated through a state of the art “Pall” Membrane Filtration System that was implemented in 2010. The facility can currently treat 6 MGD (Millions of Gallons Per Day) with an expansion footprint of 10 MGD. The treatment plant is operated by state certified treatment specialist that ensure the City’s drinking water meets the requirements of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

Municipal Court

The Dahlonega Municipal Court is located within Dahlonega City Hall. Court is held at City Hall. The Municipal Court handles various types of cases pertaining to misdemeanor traffic violations, misdemeanor criminal cases that occur within the City limits of Dahlonega, the court also hears all City ordinance violations.

Chief of Police

The Chief of Police serves as the chief law enforcement for the City. The Chief’s duties include enforcement of state and local laws, traffic laws, alcohol licensing compliance and city ordinances violations. Additionally, the Chief coordinates with other local and state law enforcement agencies and many festival and event planners to ensure the safety of those who live, work and visit the City of Dahlonega.
