City Employees Participate in Career Day

Third, fourth, and fifth grade students met with the City of Dahlonega’s Water Treatment Plant Supervisor, John Jarrard, and Waste Water Treatment Plant Supervisor, Allan McCallister, during Blackburn Elementary School’s Career Day. Career Day provides the opportunity for students to visualize future career options by engaging in conversations with local professionals. Dahlonega City Manager, Bruce Georgia, stated, “Any opportunity our employees have to talk with our community’s youth is important to us as an organization.” Mr. Jarrard and Mr. McCallister spoke to the students about the City’s management process to provide safe, quality drinking water for Dahlonega residents.

Blackburn Elementary School Assistant Principal, Dr. Linda Parr, said, “We are always very appreciative that local city employees take the time to speak with our students.” Throughout the day, students participated in many activities that taught them about different types of careers. Dr. Parr continued to speak on how Career Day benefits Dahlonega-Lumpkin County by helping students “learn new possibilities for them to become as adults while having fun!”

Blackburn Elementary will hold a career day for kindergarten through second grade in March 2014.
